Gravity and Chemistry

What would Shakespeare’s major concern have been when he first envisioned Romeo and Juliet as the protagonists of his romantic love saga? You guessed it right – chemistry! It is amazing how these two characters can not be portrayed to their perfection unless the actors share onstage chemistry.

Real life is not much different. When we talk of romantic love, we mean a special bond. It is a desire for togetherness with the person you love. Such a feeling (although associated with the heart) would not have been possible without chemical activity.

David met Rachel in a party and was physically attracted to her during their first dance. Her appearance leaves an impression that makes David feel excited. He thinks of it as instant chemistry. However, he isn’t sure whether he has fallen in love. Women all over the world may go crazy over George Clooney. This does not mean that they have fallen in love with him. What exactly is happening here? Well, it’s phenyl ethylamine – a chemical in the brain that results from this kind of a physical attraction. Acting as a stimulant, it increases David’s physical and emotional energy and makes him feel dizzy, similar to the feeling in romantic love. Dopamine, another chemical released in the body, increases his desire to get physically close to Rachel.

On the other hand, Rachel was looking for an individual with whom she could realize a deeper connection. When we talk of such spiritual affinity, we want a person whom we can call a friend. Someone who makes you laugh and feel at ease. The facet of beliefs of that person starts becoming magnetic. You respect him and build up a trustworthy relationship over time. Once such feelings emerge, endorphins are produced by the brain. As a result, there is a reduction in anxiety and the attachment becomes stronger.

The gravitational force of love is a product of these two chemical activities. People fall in love after they experience a special emotional linkage, often expressed through physical intimacy.

Also, one must understand that falling in love is an event that involves two entities. Relativity is the essence of love. Hence, the occurrence can not be viewed by the evaluation of the characteristics of one of them. While one may be almost perfect for somebody, he or she may just not be suitable as somebody else’s partner.

So, do not go out looking for romantic love with a good-looking person with an amazing intellect. Just find out whether or not it clicks between the two of you.
